DRT bulletin 24th October 2013 Europa League Football.

I will be very choosy with my matches this evening. The Europa League has a reputation for being a quite unreadable competition as some of the more obscure European clubs enter the fray. My focus with research will be towards recognisable teams from strong European leagues. My second focus will be odds based. I will look firstly at home team favourites . 5pm - Anzhi Makhachkala v Tromso - 1.56 home - Russia v Norway. 2 teams in poor form at the moment. Anzhi are not the force they once were with no money now. No win for Anzhi in 18 matches is a real concern. DDLLDLL at home for Anzhi and they have failed to score in their last 2 at home. DDLDL in the EL recently. Failed to score in last 4. 0-2 home loss to Spurs most recent result in EL for Anzhi. Tromso are a Norwegian team who have only 1 win in their last 6 matches. That win was a 4-3 domestically. 3-0 loss to Spurs and 1-1 home draw with Sheriff was a tad unlucky as they were 1-0 up until the 87th minute.Tromso have only scored 1 in 3 EL matches. A dire match . 2 poorly out of form teams and a shaky home team. 5pm - Shakhter Karagandy v AZ Alkmaar - 2.02 away - beat CEltic at home. PAOK and AZ are leading group L Shakter are on a dire run and that 2.02 for AZ could look quite big. DLLLLDLLDWL Utterly dominant domestically and at home albeit DLDW recently 2-1 away loss and 2-2 home draw in group stages so far after being dumped out by Celtic from CL. All 4 goals conceded 2nd half and 3 conceded 75th+ minute. Shakter set out to frustrate? 2-2 sole recent home EL match. Bit of inconsistentcy for AZ lately. WWLDWDLWHave scored and conceded in last 5 matches. No draw in 12 away in all competitions. Have conceded in 6 of last 7 0-1 away win v Maccaibi and 1-1 home draw v PAOK, AZ suddenly goal shy in El 71st and 81st minute goals. So with Shakter's ability to keep teams out, but eventually concede, there is an argument for a concerted period of 0-0 which we can lay late on? 6pm - Apollon L. v Lazio - 1.79 away from home. 6pm - Betis v Guimaraes - 1.58 home - Spain v Portugal and a perception that the Spanish league is the strongest. Only 1 win in 7 for Betis was a 1-0 home to Villareal. 0-0-1-0-1-1-1 scored recently.Better opponents? Only 2 defeats for Betis at home in 2013 both 1-2 defeats 0-0-1-1 scored last 4 matches. WWDD last 4 EL matches.0-0 home draw v Lyon and 1-1 away draw v Rijeka. Guimaraes are top of group i in what is a very tight group. WWLLDWLW in rececnt matches for Guim. 0-0-1-1-1-3 scored recently. 3 scored in Portugeuse cup. Yes they have played likes of Porto, Benfica, Lyon so obviously these better sides impact Guim's attack LDWLDLW away in reccent matches - inconsistent. 4-0 home win v Rijeka and 1-1 away draw v Lyon in EL group.Have played Sevilla and Atl Madrid in the El, and lost to these Spanish sides. Another EL imponderable. Betis another home side in poor domestic form yet, like Anzhi and Dinamo below, very short priced favourites. 6pm - Dinamo Kiev v Thun - 1.46 home - Ukraine v Swiss team. In stark contrast to Anzhi and co. Kiev are in good form. WWDDWW in last 6, scoring 3-2-2-9-2 in last 5. 3 consecutive wins at home. in all competitions. Not the best record in the EL, LDDDLWWLD . Kiev are actually 3rd after 2 matches in group g. Kiev have an excellent record in the EL at home.with only one loss since 2002, which was a 0-1 at home to Genk last match. 2-2 draw when 0-2 up against Rapid vienna is poor in the EL. LLDLDW for Thun in recent matches. 1-0-1-1-1-1 scored in those matches, hence the win was 1-0. Only 1 win in 6 aways for Thun. Thun have not had a draw last 10 EL. WWWWLWWL in recent matches. A 1-0 home win v Rapid Vienna and a 2-1 away loss v Genk. Thun lost away to genk as I say, and they have had 2 away losses. Thun don't tend to score more than 1 in their recent matches which is a concern. 6pm - Freiburg v Estoril - 1.89 home 6pm - Genk v Rapid Vienna - 1.75 home 6pm - Lyon v Rijeka - 1.51 home - Lyon are 2nd in Group I and Rijeka are bottom. Like Anzhi, we have a short priced team here who really are in bad overall form. LLLLDDWLDDLD 1-0-1-1-1 scored in their last 5 matches. LLDWDDD at home recently. Just as in all competitions it's DDD last 3 EL matchs. 0-0 and 1-1. Rijeka are a Croatian team. They seem dominant locally as their only 2 losses were 4-0 away v Guimaraes and 1-0 away to Zagreb. Trouble scoring in this comeptition against better opponents. That might continue, or will Lyon's drawitis strike again. 6pm - PAOK v Maccabi Haifa - 1.9 home 6pm - Sheriff Tiraspol v Tottenham - 1.36 away - Spurs are top of Group K with 2 wins in 2 matches.Moldovan Sheriff should be no match for Spurs. Only 1 win in 12 EL matches for Sheriff and 7 draws in their last 10 might signal slight concerns for Spurs. A 0-0 at home v Anzhi. 6pm - Slovan Liberec v Sevilla - 2.12 away 6pm - Trabzonspor v Legia Warsaw - 1.85 home 805pm - Bordeaux v APOEL - 2.06 home 805pm - Chernomorets Odesa v Ludogorets - 2.24 home 805pm - Dinamo Zagreb v PSV - 2.1 away 805pm - Eintracht Frankfurt v Maccabi Tel Aviv - 1.58 home - Germany v Israel. The 2 leaders in Group 4, 1st and 2nd Only 3 defeats for EF since April 2013, 2 v Dort and Bayern. 4 score draws in last 6 so not finishing matches off. In last 3 score draws, they have conceded 1 goal in 85th+ minute. This must be addressed as they are dropping 2 points in the last 5 mins of matches. Only Bayern (0-1) and Dortmund (1-2) have beaten EF at home since April 2013. 2 draws at home last 2 matches. WWWW so far 2013 EL matches, 3-0 v Bordeaux and 3-0 v Apoel . Maccaibi really struggle in the El LLDLLLDDW -win against an obviously out of sorts Bordeaux side saw goals in 71st and 80th minute. Historically have lost plenty away in El, conceding 2+ goals. I think if Frankfurt are up for this match, they could win easily. They have only really been beaten by the cream in Germany in Dortmund and Bayern and only then in very tight matches. Beware late goal action. Frankfurt's unhealthy habit of conceding after 85th+ minute and Maccaibi's 71st+ minute 2 goals last time out. 805pm - Elfsborg v Esbjerg - 2.22 home 805pm - Fiorentina v Pandurii - 1.36 home - coming off the back of a miraculous 4-2 home win, when 0-2 down at HT v Juventus, Fior must be buzzing.Mario Gomez out for Fior but Rossi doing a superb job. This group e clash sees top v bottom. Only 2 defeats this season, both tight 1-0 and 2-1( Inter). Only 2 defeats at home since Jan 2013 were both 1-0 v Roma and Grasshopper. Have scored 3-2-4 last 3 home matches. 3-0 home win v Pacos and 1-2 away win v Dnipro so far in the group. Pandurii are a Romanian side, 4th in their league Only 1 defeat last 9 aways. 1-1 away at Pacos in the group stages so far. 805pm - Pacos Ferreira v Dnipro - 1.84 away 805pm - Red Bull Salzburg v Standard - 1.51 home - Salzburg head the group with Standard bottom on 1 point. A slight surprise that as Standard been domestivally good, Only 1 defeat since May 2013 was in the Cl v fener.Unbeaten in the domestic league in 31 matches. Only 2 defeats at home since April 2012 is excellent. Only 1 draw since July 2011 for RB in the El. 4 cosnecutive wins in El conceding only 1. Group C 4-0 home v Elfsborg and 1-2 away v esjberg DLD last 3 for Standard ended a run of 17 wins in 18. WWWDWWWWWWWWWWWDL away form in all competitions. WWWWWWLD latest in EL, scoring and conceding in 7 of last 8. 1-2 home loss to Esjberg very unlucky ( 90th min) and 1-1 away draw v Elfsborg ( 1-0 down ). Vulnerable to conceding a goal, but an ability to score. That away record must account for something too, albeit ending DL latest. REd Bull have the winning thread here. 805pm - Swansea v Kuban Krasnodar - 1.5 home - only 2 draws for Swans since May 2013, one was a 2-2 suggests laying the draw a success. Only losses at home in last 7 were against United and arsenal. Last 2 wins clean sheets v St Gallen and Sunderland/ Pretty solid in EL. Only loss v Petrolul but that was 2nd leg after a 5-1 home win. Suggestion tight defence. Ignoring that 2nd leg, Swans conceded 0-0-1-0-0 in this EL campaign Russian side Kuban 11th in league. Really poor recent form. DLLLLWLLDL. Failed to score in 5 of those 8 matches. DLLLL last 5 aways Failed to score in 4 of them Lost to St Gallen and Valencia 2-0 without scoring. With swans very good defensive record, it could be a win to nil for the home side. 805pm - Valencia v St Gallen - 1.43 home - Spain v Swiss. Both sides 3 points behind Swansea who have a winnable home match. This is an important match therefore for 2nd and 3rd to take points from nearest rivals. Only 2 draws for Val since April 2013. DL last 2 matches. No draws last 13 matches at home. LLWWL last 5.Losses v Barca, Swans and Real Sociedad. LLLW last 4 EL matches, lost to Swansea and beat Kuban 0-2 Have failed to score in last 2 home EL matches. End today? Only 2 defeats for St gallen since July 2013 in all competitions. Away to Swans and BaselHave scored 0-1-0-1-0 in last 5 matches 2-0 home win v Kuban and 1-0 away loss to Swansea. That promising loss ( as Valencia lost 0-3 at home to Swans) could see St gallen surprise defensively this evening? 805pm - Wigan v Rubin Kazan - 2.34 away - this group d clash sees 2nd at home to 1st. Only 1 draw for Wigan in 9 (0-0). DDWWWW at home could count for something ( the winning groove). Have scored 2-2-2-2-3-2 0-0 away to Zulte and 3-1 home win v Maribor so far. Zulte are renowned goalscorers so shutting them out was some feat. Rubin, 10th in russian league after 13 matches. LDLWWL recently. Have lost their alst 2 aways 9 consecutive wins in the El scoring 3-3-1-2-2-2-3-5-4 and with 3 clean sheets last 4. 3-2-2-5 scored last 4 aways -could just score more goals than Wigan? 805pm - Zulte-Waregem v NK Maribor
