The Europa League is less than appealing and I will not be doing a live chat for this competition. Below is the first list of standout matches ideal for DRT purposes. Remember the shorter the price the better the potential DRT opportunity ( Rangers were 1.17 in the match odds yesterday for example) so from the list below, Dnipro, AZ Alkmaar, Lazio, Sevilla and Tottenham would all be top of the list.
I will be doing rather limited research for the Europa League, I'm afraid it's a graveyard for punting purposes and not worth my investment of time.
In the research below, the Europa League will be shortened to EL
5pm - Rubin Kazan v Wigan - 1.49 home
Standout stats
- Rubin have been in rather poor form domestically with only 2 wins, 5 defeats and 3 draws in their last 10 matches.
- Rubin did score in 5 of their last 6 matches but had a 0-0 in their last match
- .At home, Rubin have only lost 4 matches since Match 2013, and 2 of those matches were friendlies.
- Rubin certainly love the Europa League, with a run of 9 wins ending with a 1-1 draw last time out and that was against Wigan.
- At home in the Europa League, Rubin have had 10 wins, 2 defeats ( 0-1 v Olympiakos and Atl Madrid) and a draw. They have kept 5 home clean sheets in their last 6 matches.
- Rubin are top of Group D with 7 points, Wigan have 5 so a draw would be acceptable for Wigan.
- Wigan have scored 0-1-0-0-2 in recent matches.
- Away from home, in all competitions, Wigan have had 6 defeats and 2 0-0 draws in their last 8 matches. And get this, they have not scored a single goal!
Profitable in play opportunities
- this is all that I don't like about this competition. We have a team in woeful form domestically, inserted as 1.49 favourites for the EL.
- I suppose the clean sheets for Rubin in the EL need accounting for and might be enough to shut out a Wigan side not renowned for goals. Look at Wigan's away form, no goal in 8 away matches in all competitions.
- Look perhaps for a concerted 0-0 and a likelihood, if Rubin are a different animal in the EL, that Rubin will score first.
6pm - Dnipro v Pacos Ferreira - Dnipro are 1.28 to win at home against lesser Portugeuse opponents and you rather get the feeling that Pacos's form last season was a one off .
Standout stats
- Dnipro are the only real threat to Fiorentina at the top of Group E. A win for Dnipro will see them on 9 points.
- Dnipro have only lost 2 matches since May 2013 , one was against Fiorentina.
- Dnipro have had 2 consecutive draws , both score draws.
- Dnipro have scored in their last 17 matches at home.
- In the Europa League, Dnipro have lost only 3 matches since August 2011 2 of the defeats were away from home.
- Dnipro have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 matches including a 0-2 win against Pacos. The Dnipro goals came in the 83rd and 86th minutes
- At home, that Fiorentina loss has been the only recent hiccup in the EL
- Pacos have been absolutely dire overall. In their last 20 matches, they have had only 2 wins, 12 defeats and 6 draws.
- Pacos have had only 1 win in the EL in their history ( 2007, 2009, 2013).
- Only 2 goals scored in 9 EL matches for Pacos
Profitable in play opportunities
- not wishing to put the hex on this match, Dnipro seem to have the perfect opportunity tonight to get the 3 points to challenge Fiorentina. A possible win to nil also looks on for Dnipro. Pacos really are in dire form overall and in the EL historically could not buy a goal.
- Is there anything we read into the 2 80th+ minute goals for Dnipro away at Pacos? Are Pacos adept at frustrative defending?
6pm - PSV v Dinamo Zagreb - PSV are 1.46 at home tonight but have been rather unreliable domestically.
Standout stats
- In Group B, Ludogorets are clear with PSV 2nd , some 5 points behind them. Dinamo Zagreb have only 1 point.
- PSV are in poor recent form. 3 losses and 2 draws in their last 5 matches overall. PSV have been unable to score more than 1 goal in those 5 matches.
- At home, though , PSV look ok. In their last 14 matches, PSV have lost only to Ludogorets, and Roda.
- In 2013, PSV lost at home to Ludogorets, beat Chernomorets away 0-2 and drew 0-0 away to Dinamo Zagreb
- PSV have lost their last 2 matches in the Europa league, conceding 2 goals v Dnipro and Ludogorets.
- In the EL, Dinamo have only had 2 draws, both 0-0 , in their last 23 matches.
- Dinamo have failed to score in 4 of their last 5 EL matches.
- No draw for Dinamo in their last 11 away matches. 4 away wins recently for Dinamo in the EL were to nil
Profitable in play opportunities
- The lack of a draw for Dinamo Zagreb in the EL might be an angle into another tricky match.
- PSV are in poor form domestically. What makes them trustworthy DRT'ers?
- Dinamo Zagreb have lost in 4 of their last 5 EL matches.
6pm - Pandurii v Fiorentina - I like Fiorentina this season. They are 1.73 away to Pandurii and instinctually, I expected shorter odds in the EL about this in form Seria A side. It might hint at team changes.
Standout stats
- Pandurii seem to struggle in the EL. No win in 5 EL matches, Pandurii have scored 0-1-0-1-0 in those 5 matches.
- Fiorentina won 3-0 at home with ease and this is what I would have expected.
- Pandurii have lost 0-1 in their last 2 home EL matches.
- Fiorentina are top of Group E with Dnipro next, and Pandurii struggling.
- In recent matches only major teams have beaten Fiorentina ( Inter Milan and Napoli).
- Fiorentina have had only 1draw, a 0-0, in their last 21 away matches in all competitions.
- Fiorentina have scored 2 goals in 3 of their last 4 away matches.
- Fiorentina have 2 1-2 away wins so far in 2013 in the EL.
- Pandurii have no win in 5 EL matches. Should they score first, and should Fiorentina play a solid first team, then Pandurii are layable.
- Pandurii have lost only 0-1 in their 2 most recent home El matches, and Fiorentina have won 1-2 in their last 2 aways in the EL . Perhaps back 0-1 and 1-2 correct scores?
805pm - AZ Alkmaar v Shakhter Karagandy -Shakhter Karagandy are well known to Celtic fans as the Kazaks beat Celtic at home, but lost to Celtic away in the Champions League. Here in the EL, AZ are 1.22 favourites
Standout stats
- AZ go contrary to PSV and Ajax in that they are in relatively good shape. 4 wins in their last 5 matches and scoring goals.
- AZ have had only 2 losses since September 2013, and they were away from home.
- AZ have had only 1 defeat in their last 15 home matches in all competitions.
- AZ struggled in the EL in 2012. In 2013, they have only lost 1 EL match against Atromitos. AZ have had 2 1-1 draws now in the EL, including an away 1-1 v Shakhter.
- In their last 3 home EL matches, AZ have lost to Anzhi ( when Anzhi had money), Atromitos, and drew 1-1 with PAOK.The goals in that latter match came post 80 minutes.
- Shakhter are in poor form, with only 2 wins since they beat Celtic back in August 2013.Those 2 Shakhter wins came at home and were to nil.
- So far in the EL, Shakhter have scored and conceded in their last 3 matches. Alas, the results? One defeat and 2 draws.
- PAOK only beat Shakhter with a 90th minute goal in Shahkter's sole recent away game in the EL
- It's a near 5000km journey for AZ this year.
805pm - Lazio v Apollon L. - 1.29 home

805pm - Tottenham v Sheriff Tiraspol - 1.15 home
