The African play offs saw Nigeria justify the 1.28 quote. I didn't realise Ethiopia would just roll over as easily.
I got it spot on in the Netherlands v Japan match.
"Profitable in play opportunities
This is a match to quickly gloss over I’m afraid, making little appeal. If either side lead 2-0 at halftime, I would lay them at short odds for an interest as halftime usually signals wholesale team changes. I hope you learned from last night that the heart just isn’t there for these teams in friendlies."
And so the Netherlands led at halftime 2-0, laying them would result in a very small liability. Japan went on to equalise 2-2. This is the kind of DRT to look out for. Low risk, possibility of a return.
Brentford won easily, and Wolves eventually win 0-1. There was a 0-0 halftime lay there in the Wolves match. It was interesting to see Notts county hold out, as they had done in their previous 0-0 match, but eventually succumb.
De Graafshap did score 2 goals as predicted in an eventual 2-2 draw, Achilles' first draw in a while, and care of a 90th minute penalty. Lay the draw-ers would have profited I feel given the lateness of the goal.
San Marino u19 reverted to type with a 6-0 thrashing in a match where it was difficult to create a value bet.
As is typical after a full set of International matches, we get a very low key in play coupon and a number of "secondary" teams in "secondary " leagues.
11am - Jong Ajax v Sparta Rotterdam
Sparta are 1.6 away from home in this Eerste Divisie match.
Standout stats
- Jong Ajax have lost their last 7 league matches and they conceded 2 minimum in each match.
- At home, Jong have only beaten 14th and 15th and they are playing 2nd in the league today. They were beaten 0-4 by top team, and 1-2 by 4th in the league.
- 11 of Jong's last 12 matches have been over 2.5 goals.
- Jong only kept a single clean sheet and that was in their first match of the season.
- Jong have failed to score in only 4 matches all season, and now you see why there has been so many over 2.5 goals matches.
- There as not been a 0-0 this season when Jong and Sparta have played their matches.
- Sparta are in good form ( of course, they are 2nd ), losing 3 matches only, 2 away and 1 against 1st in the league. They have only lost to top 9 teams.
- Sparts' only defeats away from home came when they did not score. Are they really not going to score against a Jong side with that record?
- Sparta have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 away matches.
- Sparta have failed to score in only 2 matches all season.
Profitable in play opportunities
- We have a home team who have conceded in their last 10 matches against an away team who have scored in their last 15 matches.
- Will this be another over 2.5 goals match? It will if Jong consent to score, but I note, albeit at home, that Sparta beat 2nd and 3rd bottom 1-0 and 2-0. With 3 clean sheets in their last 4 aways, Sparta might keep Jong out?
- enter the market if 0-0 for a concerted period of time, or if Jong score first.
- Wealth warning - these lesser leagues are less reliable than their premier counterparts.

1245pm - Silkeborg v Vendsyssel FF - 1.65 home
As if to emphasise the low-key status of today's in play coupon, I tread where I would rarely tread, and that is towards the Danish 2nd division, a league which is promisingly at www.soccerstats.com, but apart from that, a league I know nothing about. Is there a reason Silkeborg are 1.65 shots? Let's find out.
Standout stats
- This is a match between 7th and 8th in a league of 12 , wholly unsuitable as a league of 12 leads to over familiarity.
- Silke have played a match less than Vend and with a win could end up clear 4th in the league.
- Vends won the last head to head 1-2
- 5 wins 2 defeats and a draw at home for Silk.
- Silke have only kept 3 clean sheets this season.
- Silke have scored in their last 8 home matches.
- In all of these teams' matches this season , there has only been one 0-0.
- Silke's last home defeat, a 1-2, was against today's opponents.
- Vends have only had one draw all season, and have only won 2 away matches all season, one against today's opponents.
- In 6 of Vends' last 8 matches, they have scored and conceded.
- Vends have won their last 2 matches.
Profitable in play opportunities
- Leagues of so few players are a minefield for punters. Look at Silke's last home defeat, it was against today's opponents.
- Will Vends continue to avoid draws?
- I would contrary bet if getting involved. Lay Silkeborg if they score first , but I warn you, if you trade consistently in these lower leagues, you'll be throwing money away.
1pm - Alania Vladikavkaz v Baltika - 1.6 home - this is a russian FNL match, another "secondary " league match
Standout stats
- Alania have won the last 3 meetings without conceding.
- Alania have a very solid FNL record recently. They have only lost 3 matches since July 2013, all 3 were away from home and they failed to score.
- Alania have not had a draw in their last 8 matches, and have won 6 of them . The 2 defeats were away and were 1-0. 4 of those 6 wins were to nil.
- Since April 2012, Alania are unbeaten at home, winning all bar 2 0-0 draws. 10 of those 14 matches saw clean sheets, and that seems to be a running theme with Alania.
- Baltika themselves are in good form in the league. They have only had 2 defeats in their last 11 matches.
- Baltika have not lost in 5 matches.
- Baltika have scored in their last 6 matches.
- It is away from home that it all breaks down for Baltika, Only 4 away wins in their last 18 away matches.
- Baltika have scored and conceded in their last 4 away matches. They have only won 1 of their last 8 away matches. That was their last match and the goal was a 90th minute winner , so a tad lucky there.
Profitable in play opportunities
- Baltika seem to break down away from home and are unlikely to win on their travels.
- The strongest trend today is Alania's love of keeping clean sheets.
- Alania are unbeaten at home since April 2012. This is a strong trend too and something we can exploit, particularly if Baltika are winning edging towards the end of this match.
2pm - AC Horsens v Marienlyst - 1.24 home
This is another Danish Division 2 match and I spoke earlier about involvement in leagues with only 12 teams .
Standout stats
- The first thing that catches my eye is Marienlyst's poor form. They have only won 1 match this season. Marienlyst have lost 7 of their last 8 matches .
- marienlyst have an extremely leaky defence, conceding 2-4-2-2-2-3-3-4 in recent matches and they have scored in 5 of those 6 matches. A goals bet looks very obvious based solely on Marienlyst.
- Naturally Marienlyst have conceded in all matches this season and have only failed to score in 4 matches. 11 of their last 13 matches obviously over 2.5 goals.
- As to Horsens, well their odds are helped by such a poor opponent.
- This is a match between 2nd top and bottom.
- Horsens are in poor form at home, they have lost 4 and drawn 1 of their last 6 matches. This is dire form, and not the home form of a 1.24 shot.
- Like Marienlyst, Horsens are a big over 2.5 goals side. They have failed to score in only 2 matches, and kept only 2 clean sheets. Horsens have conceded in their last 13 matches.
Profitable in play opportunities
- Would you trust Horsens? They have won only 1 home match in their last 6 . And this lot are 2nd in the league. God Preserve Us!!
- This looks a match teed up for goals. Over 2.5 goals is very obvious indeed and if this match contrives to be 0-0 at halftime, back over 2.5 goals.
- This match looks ideal to lay 0-0 halftime score. Warning - I have no stats to back this up, but a look at the goals scored and conceded record of these 2, and logic could point to at least one goal being conjured up before halftime. This may be the value angle into the match.
- Marienlyst are likely to concede 2 or 3 today if their form is anything to go by. Horsens failed to score in their last home match, I don't expect them to fail a 2nd time.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
230pm - Cameroon v Tunisia - 1.75 home. The African journey to Brazil continues with another play-off and as with yesterday's matches, there is little point in researching bar to note the first leg result.
Standout stats
- It's 0-0 from the first leg ( 3 0-0's for Cameroon in their last 6 matches in all competitions).
- Cameroon have kept 5 consecutive clean sheets now.
- Cameroon have a superb World Cup qualifying record having only lost 2 since 2004, both away from home.
- At home, Cameroon have won all, bar 2 draws , in World Cup qualifying since 2000. Superb. They are on a current 5 match winning streak and have had 2 1-0's in their last 3. 1-0 is enough to see them into Brazil.
- Cameroon have never conceded more than 1 goal at home in World Cup qualifying and have 3 clean sheets in their last 4 matches.
- Tunisia themselves have been very solid in World Cup qualifiers with only 3 defeats since 2000.
- Tunisia are on a 7 match unbeaten streak but have had 3 draws in their last 4 matches.
- Tunisia have scored and conceded in 4 of their last 5 away matches.
Profitable in play opportunities
- I don't know how relevant the above is to a one off winner-takes-all match this afternoon. Cameroon's home record is enviable and their clean sheets may be their saving grace. Keep a clean sheet, nick a goal, and Cameroon are through.
- Tunisia themselves are tough to beat in World Cup qualifiers and this might lead to a backing of 0-0 pre-match in the hope of a tight match in store.
- With Cameroon having 3 clean sheets in their last 4 home matches, keeping Tunisia out on their own soil, and with 2 1-0's in their last 3, my gut tells me Cameroon may edge this this afternoon
- My instincts and what actually passes may differ given the magnitude of the prize dangling over these 2 sides.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6pm - Luxembourg v Montenegro - 1.47 away. These minnows, compromising Andorra, San Marino, Faroes, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg are almost automatically opposable.
Standout stats
- This is a friendly match. If it was a competitive fixture, then I'd be far more confident.
- Luxembourg have won 4 friendlies since 2000, all of them at home, and all of them 2-1 wins. If you fancy a Luxembourg shock today, then this is the scoreline that appeals.
- In the last 3 2-1 scorelines, the opponents actually scored first.
- Luxembourg won their last home friendly. They have never won 2 consecutive matches.
- Luxembourg have now scored in 4 of their last 5 home friendlies and may yet score today.
- Montenegro have not won any of their last 6 matches. They have scored and conceded in 5 of those 6.
- Montenegro have a reasonable record in friendlies. They have only lost 1 of their last 8 friendlies, a 3-2 away at Albania, after going 1-2 up.
- Montenegro have scored 2-2-1-2-2-2-2-1 in recent friendlies which is very consistent.
- Away from home in friendlies, Montenegro have not won any of their last 7.
- Montenegro have scored and conceded in their last 6 friendlies away from home.
Profitable in play opportunities
- Luxembourg are quite obviously inferior to the teams who Montenegro have been playing recently. In recent friendlies, Montenegro have managed to score 2 with alarming regularity but note their away perfomances have been winless recently ( but they have scored and conceded).
- For me, if Montenegro lead 0-2 at any stage ( early in the match), they are eminently layable given their record for conceding after going ahead, and for Luxembourg's recent ability to score goals.
- The question is if you fancy a shock? If so, then back 2-1 pre match. If will still be alive if Montenegro score first. But ask yourselves whether a team such as Liuxembourg can really win a 2nd consecutive match? They have never managed to do so before.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In an effort to find the kind of standout bet such as UAE and Hong Kong, I feel the following will merit further attention
- Over 2.5 goals in the Horsens v Marienlyst match.
- Lay Montenegro if they lead 0-2 ( it was a great success in the Netherlands friendly yesterday)
- Back 1-0 Cameroon and hope it remains 0-0 and then Cameroon score first and score late.
- WEALTH WARNING - ordinarily the vast majority of these matches would never enter a shortlist, let alone see me researching them, so trade and tread warily.
