13TH MAY 2014 creating value from short prices

Here is an excerpt of April's article on "creating value from short prices"
Follow this step-by-step strategy to optimise your chances of collecting an evens return time after time.
1) Ensure you know your fractional and decimal odds.  This will allow you to use both the bookmakers and www.betfair.com as your resources with which to mine for 1/5, 1 /4 and 1/3 shots. For the record, a 1/5 shot is 1.20 in decimal odds. A 1 /4 shot is 1.25 in decimal odds. A 1/3 shot is 1.33 in decimal odds.
2) Don’t restrict yourself to backing selections in order to make your quota of 1/5 , 1/4 and 1/3 shots. With our ability to lay ( as the patriarch reminds us this month), we can get the same return as a 1/5 , 1/4 and 1/3 shot by laying selections at certain prices. Keep a note of the lay odds below which correspond to the same as backing the selection.
1/5 shot is 1.20  - lay a selection at 6.00  . Backing a 1.20 shot with £100 will return £20. Laying a selection at odds of 6.00 for £100 liability ( not stake) will return around £20.
1 /4 shot is 1.25 – lay a selection at 5.00. Backing a 1.25 shot with £100 will return £25. Laying a selection at odds of 5.00 for £100 liability ( not stake) will return around £25.
1/3 shot is 1.33 – lay a selection at 4.00. Backing a 1.33 shot with £100 will return £33. Laying a selection at odds of 4.00 for £100 liability ( not stake) will return around £33.

What I am going to attempt now is to try and sniff out a 1.2, 1.25 or 1.3 shot which can be backed, or a 6.00, 5.00 or 4.00 shot which can be layed.
I will use the techniques I suggested within the article. I hope you find it informative

RACING POST SHORTLISTERS/PRICE GAPPERS. We look to find horses with an obvious chance of winning, but we want to back them in the TO PLACE ONLY  market.

2 winners and the bumper was the unplaced horse.

500 Beverley
Betting forecast: 15/8 Dynamic Vision, 2/1 Handwoven, 2/1 Inheritance, 12/1 Coin Broker, 14/1 Abbey Village, 33/1 Oscuro, 66/1 Jacbequick, 66/1 Major Rowan, 66/1 Ofelia, 100/1 The Brockster.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: Handwoven has done enough to think he can win an ordinary maiden but there is a doubt about the suitability of the ground and DYNAMIC VISION did enough when third on the AW last time to think he can improve for this stiffer test. Inheritance represents a yard with a great strike-rate here and is another potential improver.[Emily Weber]

Will these 3 horses dominate? fav 4th

Betting forecast: 8/11 Virtuel D´oudon, 9/4 Always Archie, 7/1 Squeeze Me, 20/1 Fortification, 20/1 Golden Milan, 66/1 Stonemadforspeed.

SPOTLIGHT VERDICT: The one to beat is VIRTUEL D'OUDON, who won his first two starts under rules and probably showed even better form when close second at Exeter last month. Always Archie comes here in good nick and is the most obvious danger.[Chris Wilson]

A novice hurdle so always a chance of a faller. A 3 horse race though for 2 places? 1st 4/6
---------------------------------------------------------------------
220 sedgefield - Final Pass here is a strong price gapper and represents a trainer winning this in the last 2 years 1st 2/5
----------------------------------------------------------------------
320 Sedgefield - Up and go in a Novices chase is the provisional 1/3 favourite. If 1.2 in the place only market, that would interest, otherwise it would have to be a win only bet 2nd 4/11

TENNIS SHORT PRICES
10 wins and 3 losses yesterday. The biggest gap in the rankings was Kuznetsov and that one won easily.

10am - Golubev v Verdasco ( 1.36)

10am - K Anderson ( 1.22) v V Popsipil

10am - Muguruza ( 1.32) v burnett

12pm - J Benneteau ( 1.29) v Kudla

1230pm - Stepanek v Djokovic ( 1.05) - 2 sets might bring us near to 1.2 odds but I think we'll fall short.

215pm - S Wawrinka ( 1.07) v Riba - not been his best of late.

3pm - S Zhang v Kvitova ( 1.19)

430pm - Struff ( 1.16) v Gerasimov

6pm - Ferrer( 1.08) v Kukushkin

630pm - Raonic( 1.29) v Bolelli

8pm - Dellacqua v N Li( 1.07)

FOOTBALL SHORTIES

1pm - Guangzhou FC v C-Osaka - 1.38 home - 5-1 to Guangzhou the last time these 2 met. I'd have expected shorter odds which might suggest this may not be a must win in the Asian Champions League.

5pm - Tallinna Kalev v Nomme Kalju - 1.08 away - the away side look rock solid here and the home side look terrible . How can we get a 1.2? perhaps back the away side to win at halftime? Check the bookies as this Estonian league could be very illiquid with Betfair.

530pm - Austria Lustenau v First Vienna - 1.35 home - this is not a league I would normally associate with, but limited research sees Austria Lustenau yet to concede in head to heads to First Vienna.

SHORTLIST

I am running out of time today. As this is voluntary, I can only commit a certain amount of time. So I will summarise my choices so far. If I have time I will do the rankings but I am running late on my other commitments such as the newsletter!
630pm - Raonic( 1.29) v Bolelli - Raonic is on the up here and in solid form in 2014, threatening to break the top 10 wins 2 sets
----------------------------------------------------
1130am - Barthel v Suarez-Novarro ( 1.28) - came unstuck against Serena Williams but put together a really solid run recently winning at around these odds, Suarez-Novarro should be backed until she loses at these odds. - WINS 2 SETS
----------------------------------------------------------------
220 Sedgefield - I like races where the trainer has won multiple times and he has price gapper Final Pass here. A hope the horse does not fall and places at least at odds approaching 1.2 or higher. WINS
-------------------------------------------------------------------
530pm - Austria Lustenau v First Vienna - 1.35 home - this is not a league I would normally associate with, but limited research sees Austria Lustenau yet to concede in head to heads to First Vienna. 2-1
